When you see the amount of money required to attend college in America, we fully understand that you can be a little overwhelmed. The question you ask yourself is how to be able to finance going to college in the United States. To answer this question there is CSN!
CSN (Central Studiestödsnämnden) is the world’s most favorable financing system for students studying abroad. You can borrow so much from CSN that it often covers all or large parts of the course fees abroad (depending on the school, education and length of the education). In addition, the interest rate on the CSN loan is so low that it is often called “the world’s best loan”. This means that the sum you pay back each month to CSN when the studies are completed is very favorable. Approximately 6 to 12 months after the studies are completed, you usually start repaying CSN. It is with the help of CSN that you will finance your studies, unless of course you choose to pay all the college costs yourself. We will now dive into more details about how CSN works.
CSN-loans and contributions for studying abroad
csn- loans to course fees
To then pay the course fees at college, you will also be able to borrow additional money from CSN.
For full-time studies at college, you can borrow SEK 3,360 per week for your course fee. For example, if you study full-time for 17 weeks during a semester, you will receive approximately SEK 57,000 for your course fee that semester. In total, you can borrow up to SEK 403,200 from CSN for course fees.

In addition to loans for school fees etc., you can also cover travel and insurance expenses with the help of CSN.
The maximum amount per six months you can borrow for travel expenses is SEK 15,750.
The maximum amount per week you can borrow for the insurance is SEK 425 per week.

In total, you get SEK 14,676 a month, which is usually enough for accommodation and living expenses. Of that sum, SEK 3,652 is a contribution from CSN that you do not have to pay back. This means that each academic year (a college academic year is 34 weeks) you will receive up to around SEK 130,000 for loans and grants for studies abroad from CSN. CSN also issues extra cost loans for studies abroad which amount to SEK 22,304 per academic year.
